As a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community, the Y has a need to raise charitable funds. These funds ensure all community members have access to the Y and advance programs that address community needs in the areas of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Charitable funds ensure every YMCA

functions as a cause-driven organization;
adheres to its obligation as a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit corporation to provide community benefit; and
builds and sustains a philanthropic culture by engaging donors in helping their community.

The annual campaign is the Y’s primary vehicle for raising sustainable charitable gifts from members and the community, but it’s more than just a fundraising tool. The annual campaign brings together staff at all levels, committed volunteers, Y members, and donors to pursue a common goal: ensuring that each Y has the resources to make an enduring impact right in its own neighborhood.

The Need for Charitable Contributions

Dollars contributed to our annual campaign help the Y address the major issues facing our community:

We address the increase in academic disparity among children and teens of different backgrounds through our Youth and Government programs and our partnerships with year-round feeding program.
We address high rates of chronic disease and obesity through our work as a Pioneering Healthy Community, involvement with community events, and Y signature programs.
We address the lack of safe afterschool and summer care for children of working parents through Y programs at various community sites across the county.

While we strive to keep values-based programs and associated fees affordable by subsidizing some of the real costs, we know that during difficult times some individuals and families need financial assistance.

Through the annual campaign, we are able to ensure that no one is turned away based on their ability to pay. Your volunteer and financial commitment will help hundreds of youth and families share in the Y experience!

Facts About the Y
Annually, the YMCA of Dyer County serves more than 7,000 individuals from our diverse community. Last year the YMCA

awarded more than $28,000 in financial assistance, enabling all youth and families to participate in Y programs;
connected more than 500 teens with caring adult role models in programs that teach leadership skills and build a sense of achievement;
supported nearly 2,000 children in quality, values-based programs that promote healthy development;
involved more than 2,500 youth in sports programs, teaching character development on and off the playing field; and engaged 350 volunteers to lead and guide the vision and mission of the YMCA.
